Puppy love!

The crew was wormed today - and when they were done, it was time for a snuggle!

Once a few piled on, Trystan felt I should love all of them - at once!

We're learning!

One of the hardest things for me is training. I'll admit, our two aren't the best trained dogs. They sit most of the time, and lay down...when they feel like it. They are, however, house trained (except when the in-laws peekapoo moved in - Zeus went thru some issues!). And from what I've researched, the earlier, the easier. 

Last time, I let training get out of control, and I ended up with such a mess that once this litter is done, we'll be replacing the carpet....yeah. That bad. 

So this time, I talked Brian into this AMAZING whelping box from breederbase.com called DuraWhelp. Corrugated plastic, lightweight, SUPER easy to clean. And I paid to get a separate weaning box, so they can climb over to go potty, and keep it off the floor.

When I cleaned today, I decided to haul it out and put it together & try it out, since there are some wet spots in the box. I got it all together, spread some newsprint out on the floor, and woke the masses so they could try it out!

They weren't exactly amused, because they weren't done with their nap, but I got 5 puddles! (Murray and male Spot were waaayyy too tired to pee). Now they just have to learn to climb over there! Probably not necessary yet, but better to get them started asap :)

EYES!!!!

This is our favorite part of puppy time - they're opening their eyes!  We can't tell color yet, because they aren't completely open yet, but I did get pics of all of them!

Chubby is the biggest girl - she loves to snuggle, and always has her tongue out looking for food!

Eyebrows is like a little teddy bear. One of the tiny ones, he has a great face!

The littlest girl, she has a heart spot on her back when you look at her from the side.

Boy spot is another chub. He is very light, red on the sides with a grey back stripe.

Murray is a chub. An absolute chub. He has a very white face, and an adorable nose!

Red. She's another lil one, but she definitely has the biggest mouth!!!

Sly Cooper has a perfect raccoon mask. He is still the tiniest of the seven....

Weigh Ins

I weigh the pups every day, to make sure they are gaining weight. They are doing just fine, trust me! Some are gaining faster than others, like Sly Cooper and the dark faced boy. Others, I'm keeping an eye on, like Red and Heart (the females). Some of them fit very well in my makeshift scale, like Red, who just gets cozy....

Then there's this guy, who doesn't seem quite as comfy....

Oh, and for those who don't have small, slightly addicted children like mine, I'd like to explain where names come from. Last time, they were all Power Ranger names matching their colored collars (last litter was much less individualized!). This time, we have 2 named after Sly Cooper characters.

"Aunt Murray" is what CJ calls Murray for some reason - I don't know if it's because he's pink or what....

Stop It!

Went to bed last night, had 5 puppies. Woke up this morning... had 7! What the heck!  She's definitely done now - all sorts of relaxed & cheery :) Here's the crew, in no particular order, but separated by sex

Still comin'!

Well, Luna is an Amazing momma. First lil one came at about 8:30 last night.... after her water broke on my loveseat!!!! We made it to the box just in time!

#2 was not meant to be :( No pics of that little one, I got rid of it as quick as I could, to not confuse Luna or the kids (who I wasn't sure would be upset or curious!) ....

Then we settled in. The kids & Brian went to bed. I started a fire, got my blankie and my computer and got cozy... I must have dozed, because at 1:30 or so it seemed like it got loud ... like more than 1 puppy loud... And #3 was born :)

At that point, I was whipped. I had worried about how long it was taking, I was considering calling the vet in the morning.  Mostly I was uncomfortable, and wanted my bed. She handled one without me, it was 4:00 by the time I gave up, and went upstairs.  

I came down at about 7, and met the first man of the family :) 

I still wasn't convinced she was done, but she was resting comfortably, went outside for a few minutes - I got to clean the box, weigh the babies, etc. I did a bit of running, and got back to Trystan letting me know she was licking a lot again... and one of the puppies was really wet....

Did a quick head count, came up with 4... wait - what? Yep, here is boy #2!

Hello world

So much for easy peasy - lil miss first pup came about 30 seconds after Luna's water broke on my love seat (made it to the box! Whew!). Then the awkward sadness of a stillborn.... Then we waited. And we worried. It was taking forever!!!! Finally, everyone else tucked into bed & I dozed between the box & the fireplace ... Then I heard lotsa crying. More than one type crying...

Surprise! Good morning world! I still think there's more, so we'll keep you updated!

Accidents Happen

Accidents happen, right? So, if I were to not pay attention, and Luna went into heat, and Luna and Zeus got together TWICE, that would be ok.  She'd never get pregnant that easy.... right?

Epically wrong.  Unfortunately, all we have this time is rough ideas... like the "Oh crap, the dogs got together" text I sent Brian.... no exact dates, no real plan. We're thinking anytime in the next two weeks. Real specific. I've started documenting temps and stuff already, just to be prepared. We also got this cool thing today...

The box - not the kid - we've had him for awhile :) I'm hoping this super nice box will help keep the room clean, and help me keep it clean in the box. We even got the expander, so when weaning and training time comes, they can spread out a bit!
So, the blog begins again! And since I haven't seen too many great puppy pics lately, I'll share these - this is Krash & Krypto (formerly Thor) - Luna's brother and pup (being loved by Emma!) 

They amaze me because they ride around in Kody's truck, sat in our driveway for 45 minutes, and never got out.... AWESOME! Krash even hung out like this for a bit :)
